• We believe in God. We believe that our Creator’s divine presence exists throughout the universe. We believe that we humans have a wonderful capacity to sense the divine, loving presence of God within each of us.
• We follow in the footsteps of early Christians who believed that Jesus taught us to become aware that there exists an omnipresent God of Love, not a god of anger, hatred, and vengeance. Those things exist when we humans fail to seek the presence of God’s divine love within us.
• In this, we share an insight of Sir Isaac Newton, the co-inventor of calculus who is widely considered to have been the greatest physicist before Einstein. Newton devoted much of his life to theology, the scholarly study of writings about religious beliefs. When asked to summarize what he had learned, he responded with these words – “God is love.”
• We share the doubts of many early Christians that God, the omnipresence of divine love, would ever create human souls with the intent that they experience some kind of eternal torment if they fail to accept any particular story.
• We think that it is the responsibility of each of us to seek the presence of God’s divine love within us and to express that love through the ways in which we live our lives.
• We celebrate the freedom to think for ourselves. Unity was founded to help bridge gaps between religion and science. We celebrate the discoveries of science, the methods of which help us to better understand the processes of creation itself. Foremost among these discoveries are those of physicists whose mathematics point to there being multiple dimensions of existence beyond the four within which we live our daily lives.
• In Unity, we emphasize the importance of meditation and affirmative thought and prayer, including praying for others. Meditation is a way of peacefully clearing our minds and eventually sense the presence of God’s empowering love within us. Who knows, perhaps as we clear our minds and ‘listen to the silence’ within us, we might be connecting a bit with the other dimensions of existence within us?
• In Unity, we seek to help others experience the divine, loving presence that helps us to heal and to clarify the purposes for which we exist. There is much to be discovered in each of our personal spiritual journeys.
• Unity churches do not ask individuals to subscribe to any particular creed. We seek to help each person along their own spiritual path. For example, we welcome and embrace the presence of persons who believe that Jesus was God incarnate just as we welcome and embrace those who look upon Jesus as a human who became extraordinarily aware of the presence and transforming power of divine love within. In Unity, the teachings of Jesus are closely studied.
• Unity began not as a separate Christian denomination, but as a movement to help people of all denominations, as well as those of other religions, who wish to discover God’s loving presence and who wish to express that presence in their lives.• We seek to honor all spiritual paths that emphasize love, acceptance, inclusion, selflessness, and duty to help others. We feel free to seek insights from any such tradition.
• Our youth programs are a vital part of Unity. We seek to help parents to raise their children with an awareness of the loving, divine presence within them and to help them learn to live lives abundant with love.
AN INVITATION
Unity of Tallahassee has been a part of Tallahassee for a half century. In October 2021, we lost our sanctuary building to a devastating fire. We now invite all who might like to visit us in our re-new sanctuary and perhaps learn a bit more about us. We’d like to learn more about you.
Our Sunday morning services and youth program begin at 11AM. The times of other events, such as prayer team meetings, classes, weekly meditation sessions, and free lending library are posted on our web site – unityoftallahassee.org. We are a ministry centered church and we welcome volunteers to help us to accomplish a wide range of activities and tasks.
